Spring is coming
Mon - February 6, 2006
Every year around the middle of January when the rest of the country is fighting the bitter cold we are having wonderful spring-like weather here in the desert. It's always a reminder of warmer weather around the corner, but for once let's all just enjoy today. Our pets sure are. Longer walks through the neighborhood, even more time spent at the dog park. They love every extra minute we spend with them. But this might be the year we all think heartworm medication, I know in the past we haven't been at a high risk for heartworm disease, but with all the rain we've been experiencing we will soon see the mosquitos, which carry the disease. So please think about protecting your pets(dogs and cats) against this disease.. Happy Spring.......
February is Dental Health Month
February starts off the Pet Dental Awareness month. Dental health is a major concern in the overall health of your pet. Over 80% of all pets over the age of 2 will develop periodontal diseases. This could compromise heart, liver, lung and kidney functions, and should be taken seriosly. Just as we see the dentist regularly, so should your pet.
Our pets cannot tell us when they have dental discomforts, but here are some signs to look for:
*persistent bad breath
*drooling
*sensitivity around mouth
*pawing at face or mouth
*difficulty chewing and/or loss of appetite
*discharge from the nose and swelling under the eyes
*stains and tarter buildup
*inflamed or bleeding gums
Most vets in the area are offering special discounts in February in honor of this month, so make your appointment today!

New Year's Resolutions
Sat - January 17, 2004
Well it's January, time to start that News Years resolution. So may I suggest a nice long walk with your furry friend, or how about a day at the dog park. Not every resolution needs to be about us, overweight dogs and cats are a growing concern these days. With all the video games and television shows, even our furry friends are not getting enough exercise. Heart disease and diabetes are becoming more common in animals than ever before. Some can argue that we didn't have the technology before, but I believe we are just letting our animals become as lazy as we have become. So go, get, fetch and take fiddo for a nice long walk, he'll love you for it. Oh and don't forget his water bottle too.
